I have a 95 Z28. When I fill the fuel tank, it takes about 175 miles for the gauge to start moving, then in the next 75 miles, it drops down to 1/4 tank. Is there any way to fix this?

 

I heard that the newer tank (I think 00 on?) was a slightly different design and was a little more acurate. Anyone know if this was true? Because a lot of the people I know with 01s and 02s, their gas guages are pretty acurate. Could we just swap out the tank, sending units and such and see if we can get a better reading?

 

I now have an 02 SS, and yes, the gauge is way more accurate than my '96 Z-28. My solution for the '96 was free: Fill it when it gets to 1/4.

 

While that is true, it is nice to at least have a decently acurate level reading. Especially when you're on long trips. It sucks looking at your fuel guage and it says 3/4 full and then looking down again once you pass out of a town on your way to the middle of nowhere and see that it's below the 1/4 level! It's just a pain in the butt, so why not find a way to make it better?

Long trips are really easy to manage regarding fuel consumption, it's the around-town stuff that will sneak up on you. It's all a matter of trip planning. If the gauge went out completely, would long trips be out of the question? Not really, with a little planning.

 

Like some other dude said i think long trips are pretty easy, just pay attention to how much you can get on a full tank and thats about it. I dont even pay attention to the gauges anymore because i know it wrong and it will fall quicl, i just look at the mileage. In town and traffic that can be tricky tho... I do agree that the gauge SUCK
