Front bumper

Can you cut the 2 holes styrofoam under the facia to allow the air to pass through to the radiator easier? or even fab a better ram air?

isnt this were the intercoolers would go for a SC anyway?

Re: Front bumper

I am [retty sure the air damn under the car brings up pleanty of air to the ratyader, so i wouldnt go cutting holes just to try and get more air to it.

If you want to run coller just get a 160 thermostat (make sure itd for a LT1 might have to order from a vendor) and or put in some water weter.

With the above my temp never goes over 160

Re: Front bumper

it's an additive to the coolant that increases the thermal properties of the cooolant. increaseing the ability to echange heat between the coolant and the radiator.

i think it advertises 10-15 degrees better cooling with just the addition of the additive.

Re: Front bumper

Cutting holes in the bumper backing doesn't increase airflow to the radiator. There's a plastic baffle that comes all the way up from the air dam, and blocks off that entire area.

Re: Front bumper

I was just going to post a thread about this. I put up one earlier about having cooling issues during heavy use. I think it comes down to my SSRA and the front lip I have preventing enough air from hitting the dam. The lip alone is blocking about half the air from hitting the dam, and the SSRA blocks a good amount more. I am using a 160* stat with fan tune and RM12 + water wetter so I can't do much else.

I pooped the hood and took a good look and it is almost a clear shot from the holes in the bumper to the radiator. That shroud piece that was mentioned had to be removed during the installation of my SSRA. All that's needed is a drain spout 90* elbow piece of ducting to route the air around the radiator support. I found a perfect piece down at Lowes that has one side in a rectangle shape and the other side in a flared 3" opening. Take the angle piece though and on the side that faces the radiator cut it a bit to give it a wider spread of flow so it's not shooting the air all in one spot, basically so it's more of a 45* angle instead of a 90*.

I've seen people use those holes up from to run air up to the air box and they say they feel gains so it should be a good area to pick up air. The only thing I worry about is debris getting stuck in the cooling fins in the condensor, but I'll put up some kind of mesh or foam or something to catch the big stuff.

Re: Front bumper

Sorry for the lag. Here's the pieces I bought. I already crammed them in there and they do fit, and they also lead right to the radiator. Like I said, I do not have that plastic baffle piece, i think I removed it when I installed the SSRA a few years back, but you can always just cut out the holes necessary in the baffle if you need. All I need to do now is get off my lazy *** and cut out the foam and dremel the hole a bit bigger.

If you notice, you can see that the inlet part rises up a bit, this helps clear the bumper support that the hole runs into. Also, like I mentioned before, I'm going to cut the 90* piece into more of a 45* shape so that there is a more direct flow to the radiator. I'm going to use tap screws to hold the inlet side down and either use superglue or some plastic bond chemical to hold the two inlet and elbow together.

Sorry for the size
