Fixing firebird headlight motor?
Fixing firebird headlight motor?
I really don't want to buy a new one there pretty expensive mines still goes up and down. but at the botton it makes this noise as if the motor is still trying to go down it'll stop after a while but kinda embarrasing. who has ever rebuilt one or had this proble?
Re: Fixing firebird headlight motor?
Generally, its the plastic gear that has worn out. You have a couple choices.... disassemble and flip the gear around 180degrees. It only runs on 1/2 the gear, so 1/2 the teeth will still be like new. I think Shoebox has the info on his "Tech Pages".
The alternative is metal replacement gears. Brent Franker (one of the moderators) makes them and sells them. Brent has the info on his website.

There is a ton of info on both those pages so might take you a while to find.
Here is a direct link to the page Fred is talking about which describes in detail all known (known to me anyways. LOL!) problems with the Firebird headlights and solutions for them as well. If you are tight on cash, there is a free fix you can attempt at the end of the page. Good luck!!!
