Fix fiberglass hood?

I week ago I hit a pole with my 1999 Camaro SS. I have to replace the fender and bumper and it ripped a small hole in the front of the hood. It's only about a couple square inches of damage to a hood otherwise in mint condition. Is there anyway to fix/patch/repair a fiberglass good without spending all the money to buy a new one? Thanks.

I seriously doubt it... When I had my wreck and it took off the entire front bumper, damaged both quarter panels, and just left a very small crease in the corner of the hood, about an inch long at the very most... they had to replace the hood too even though the damage was very minimal...

Yes, light damage to fiberglass body parts is easy to fix. Make sure the shop doing the repair is eduacted in proper procedures for repairing SMC. (Sheet Molded Composite). SMC repair requires the use of specific fillers and primers.

Re: Fix fiberglass hood?

The reason they replaced poetic's hood was because of the crumple areas on the hood. They are only designed to do it once. Another impact would screw up the transfer of force through out the car. A sheetmetal hood rarely gets repaired. A fiberglass panel is a whole new ball game. You should see some of the stuff i fix at work. As long as there is enough material left to piece it together or its a small hole that won't require more labor than buying a new one it would be fixed.
