First Upgrade?
Re: First Upgrade?
well for starters, you could try posting in the right forum. I wont be to much of a meanie since this is your first post. We have ls1 and lt1 tech, you would fall into the ls1 tech. Hop on over to that section, and look around for a few days, search a little, and learn. In my opinion, since you have an SS, a cold air intake isnt exactly needed. The SS exhaust is better than the regular Z's but I would ditch it and pick up a decent cat back exhaust system, from there, long tube headers, if allowed by your state (do you have emissions or not). After that you could go in lots and lots of directions. Maybe a set of gears for the rear end, maybe a better clutch, maybe some suspesion work to help you launch better, maybe an electric water pump, computer tune, and the list goes on and on. The one mod that i did to my car that i liked, and made the biggest difference was a short throw shifter. Those hursts in the SS's arent anything special. Pick up a pro 5.0 and enjoy. Maybe even cut the stick off an inch extra to get this short stubby thing, that is a hell of a lot of fun to shift. It will cut your shifts down by about 500%

Re: First Upgrade?
Don't sweat it Ty - you're not that far off with your question for this forum.
You're asking a kind of general F-body question.
I'll bet you are looking for modifications that you can actually feel - right?
Best one right away for your 6speed car is a shifter of some kind.
Either the Pro 5.0 or the B&M Ripper..........whichever.
If you can pony up the cash - the next one that would make your car a blast to drive is 4.10 gears. You'll get a huge seat of the pants feel out of it.
The obvious smaller ones are.......cold air package.......catback exhaust.......hotter ignition.......

Re: First Upgrade?
it's an LS1...coil per cylinder...not much need for a hotter ignition untill you are into a SERIOUS engine rebuild.
i agree with the shifter, however since its an SS you may have the hurst upgrade already (does you shift **** have an "H" on it?). if it does you can get away with just a $30 short stick off ebay, makes a world of difference.
after that i would suggest the lid, the stocker is so restrictive and ugly.
next would be exhaust.
there are some small things that will make the car perform better ...actually the driver...a shift light. lets you shift more consistent and more accurately. a proform is easy to install and only costs about $50.
