Exhaust question...

Exhaust question...
My stock exhaust (96 LT1) has started leaking at the y-pipe joint. Doesn't look like a "donut" gasket in there, so I'm guessing I have to replace the whole pipe. If that's the case I may finally upgrade the exhaust system.
SO... I see a lot of talk about long pipes, and systems, etc. I have no engine mods as of yet. What exhausts would y'all recommend? Should I bother with headers or wait till the engine gets done?
I know Borla is all the rage around my area, but so dang pricey. Flowmaster has a moderately priced system, but they rot out pretty quick from what I've heard.
I do know that I don't want a single outlet system....

Re: Exhaust question...
is the leak a rusted hole in the pipe? or just at a joint?
any competent muffler shop should be able to fix it.
but if you wanna upgrade it's a nice thing to do for a little more power and better sound.
i suggest looking at the magnaflow mufflers. they flow REALLY well and are great quality. they won't rust out...least mine didn't in the florida salt air for 7 years!
and i think you mean "long tubes"...as in a type of header.
if you are thinking of doing headers you should do some research on here, do a search. TONS of info on them and other styles. main question is whether you have to pass emissions. if you do...it limits your options on headers.

Re: Exhaust question...
yeah, I did mean to type long tubes... fingers got ahead of my brain...
We haven't had emissions (NH), but just this year they are talking about implementing emissions testing Wish I knew if they would "grandfather clause" or not... I'd hate to have to rip 'em out in a year, but then again if I can sneak them in BEFORE the law passes...
There's where my research should begin, I guess.
