Estimated H/P

Here's the story short and sweet, father passed away recieved his camaro from the east coat to the west... orginally an 1982 2.8ltr v6 (from vin search) now has 350 5.7 ltr supposilly out of a corvette.... i just put headers new y pipe high flow cat and 80 series flowmaster on to day with 2.5" pipes... new to this domestic thing so i was wondering if i can get a est. h/p so i can start slaying my buddies imports.... Thanks!

Re: Estimated H/P

Not enough info, could be a 180 hp smogger piece of junk or it could be a decent 300 hp setup. What induction type, year of corvette it's out of, etc? If you don't know and can't tell from visual inspection I don't think anyone here can give you even a wild guess... Is it carbed or what? Could be any number of different fuel injection setups too, can you tell or at least post a pic of the engine, that would at least hint at the setup... Even beyond that it could have hundreds of different heads and cam combos that can make it something that ranges from a boat anchor to a real screamer...

If it's one of the more common swaps in a thirdgen, and is a L98 350 w/ TPI (spiderlike looking intake fuel injection) from a mid/late 80s Vette, it would have around 240-250 hp stock. With the full exhaust you've added it's probably doing something like 270ish hp at the crank with a mountain of torque (TPI's specialty). Of course your father could have changed out the cam or cleaned up the heads or something before the swap to so it's still hard to nail down a rough estimate. Only way to know is to take it to your local chassis dyno and get some numbers...

i'm pretty sure there not to much done to it but it's a 4 barrel carb and pretty much just basic motor....it runs mint does not lag or anything and a dyno is pretty rare to come across here at least i hear there are only 2 in the whole vancouver (b.c) region and diffucult to get a test on.... so ya it would be nice to know though and see so i can get a rough est.

In that case, i think Ray hit it. It's really gonna depend on what year 'vette the engine came from.

I'm with you on the dyno thing. Only one dyno in Alaska and he charges like $250/hr with a min 2hr charge.

Re: Estimated H/P

You can look at the stock # on the engine and be able to tell where it came from.
