Engine not wanting to catch right away??

When I go to turn on the car, it seems to turn over for a long time before it fires up. Sometimes It takes 2 tries to get it to start up. Why is it doing this and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks.

What have you done as far as testing so far? Is it getting proper fuel? Spark? Batt in good shape? Is this a new problem?

I have had the car a week. It has been happening since I've got it. The batt seems good, but I don't know when it was changed last. Same goes for the plugs. As far as fuel I have no issues after start up. So I don't know if fuel is an issue. What kind of testing should I do?

A frequent cause of delayed starts it rapid loss of fuel pressure after the fuel pump runs for the initial "prime". A fuel pressure check would determine if this is contributing to the problem.

Another possibility, also related to the first one, is leaking fuel injectors. If this is the problem, the engine will sometimes start faster if the throttle is held to the floor during cranking, to put the PCM into "clear flood" mode.

I will look into a pressure check and see what that tells me. As far as holding the throttle down during start up, it didn't do anything.
