E-Brake Cable issue

Just parked the car. Set parking brake and.... noise.

I don't believe the cable snapped, do I just need to take apart the center console dealy?

Are you saying that when you pulled the parking brake handle up, you heard a "snap", the handle came up, but the brake did not engage? If that's what happened, it could be a problem with the pawl in the ratchet that the handle operates. That was a common problem with the early 4th Gens, although I would have hoped they fixed it after 7 years of production.

It actually sounded like a "clunk", but the handle gave way like the cable wasn't attached.

Funny thing is while parking it today is that it seems like it works

I'm going to test it on a graded hill later this evening.

It may be working on just one wheel. That's the story for my 95. Take a look and see if both brakes are coming on when you pull the brake up. My driver side parking brake was missing some small parts. I contacted Dal Slabaugh and got everything I needed as a retainer had departed at some point in the car's life and the little parts it held in place were deposited in some driveway or alongside the road.

I had to replace both cables running the back brakes, because if you replace one(I was told),then,it might be uneven.Hope this helps.(The consol was the first place I looked also,it's not there).
