Re: Dyno'd today...

its good you have the 4.10's, same cam with 2.73's the car doenst launch for crap. i would consider a better tune when you have the money. same setup now minus gears and ssra netted me 370rwhp. not bad but not good after spending several thousand dollars. that was mail order tune by tsp. had another tune that got it up to 387rwhp, but still had issues. a third tune by FOFF667, cleared all my issues and i gained another 14hp. usually on the mail order tunes they forget to adjust the values for the tps, so you might get a tps0121.

Time to Port the heads, add LS6 intake, and lil juice

Re: Dyno'd today...

in short...

they suck...

you should get more than that. it's got to be in the tune.

i'm running a smaller cam with similar boltons and i thought i had a crappy tune and only got 382hp.
and mine was on a slipping clutch.

i don't mean to sound rude...but you should be a lot higher. i would think 380-390 easy, and maybe 400 with the LS6 intake. save $500 and go get a good dyno tune.

Negative. Theres no way im spending $500 on a tune. How in gods name could a tune cost $500, thats disturbing to me. I dont have that kind of money. i dont know what the discrepencies are with elevation and the corection formula, but i did do this in denver. im sure its really accurate, but hell, what do i know.

Ever hear of doing something right?
Why would you even invest in any mods if you dont want to do them right??

I would find a reputable shop that can dyno tune on a Mustang dyno preferably, and have it done.

I dont think you should gripe about costs when you spend $ on wheels and stereo. Really.. do it right..

Re: Dyno'd today...

As good as the LS1 heads flow, they still need to be ported to get them optimized for that big cam, and as said before an LS6 intake wouldn't hurt either, AND you definitely need to have it tuned on the dyno. The dyno tune will cost around $400, but mail order just isn't going to cut it when you're trying to extract all the power you can out of you combo. I picked up 25 rwhp over a "mail order" tune. If you didn't want to spend the $$$ you should have left the car stock...

The other side of the coin is that you should run it at the track and see what your mph is...mph is a good indication of hp...

Re: Dyno'd today...

Yeah, i spent the money, but i spent WAY less than most people would have for the same. I got the stereo, comlete for like 900. i got the OEM Z06's for 900 WITH brand new michelin pilots. I got cam, headers gears and EVERYTHING for the install for like 1000. ANd youre saying i didnt do it right? hmmmm. I would say I did a pretty damn good job as far as that goes, and I worked my *** off for the money that I did spend. So when somone tells me, "Oh yeah, just spend another grand for 20 horsepower" im like, uhh, yeah, im a 21 year old college senior. 20 horsepower isn't worth the money.

Ever hear of doing something right?

Yeah, ive heard of doing things right. I got everything at a discount price. If you have an opportunity in a moment of time to get everything cheaper, why not take advantage of it? I did the mods right with what I had. Yeah, I didnt throw in every little thing extra, like the LS6 intake, and the expensive tune, but i installed everything myself, with LITTLE experience, and saved mayself possibly 3 grand right there, but youre right, i dont know how to do anything right.
Im not sticking up for the crap numbers my car just pulled Friday, but Jesus, i dont have an extra 1500 laying around the garage, ya know what I'm saying? Maybe like a year from now or two, or five. Who knows. Right now its just not plausible. I guess money is everything......

And by the way, i pulled llike 13.9 (at 4,700ft.) at like 105-7 (give or take, i cant remember, but close to that), i dont think that is too bad (bad launches on pilot's, and babying the clutch.

Re: Dyno'd today...

You asked for opinions and when you get them you get angry? You did not do it right or you'd be making the power you should be. Thats great that you got a big cam and all the parts/install for a grand, but is it working for you like it should? No. Might have been a little bit smarter to spend some of that $1800 from wheels/tires and a stereo on some head work and tuning. Then you'd have a beast and still be on a budget.

And don't throw that I'm a poor college student stuff at me...I have a wife, two kids, a mortgage, car payments, and all the crap that having a family entails on a cop's salary that I definitely worked my *** off for...Hope everything works out for you...

Re: Dyno'd today...

Lets see here, college guy living off of summer job savings. 70 bucks a month for groceries. i dont know man, i know its hard having several people, but my moneys on a smaller scale. and no, im not angry at your opinions, it just angers me that money is everything. but for someone to come and tell me i didnt "do things right", thats plain gay. yeah, i bought the stereo and stuff, but thats back when i was in high school on my parents Tit. i never even knew i was going to do a cam swap when the opportunity arose. "If a frog had wings he wouldnt bump his ***.", same principle. i know i need those other things for the numbers, i just dont think the guy should have said "ever heard of doing something right", i mean come on. im not ignorant. that was uncalled for.

Re: Dyno'd today...

look, i dont think anyone was trying to **** you off. the tune thing isnt a must right now anyway. just dont rely on that mail order tune. when you have extra money that you want to dump into the car, that should be a thought, but it can always wait. took me 6 months to get it right.

Re: Dyno'd today...

it was my comment so i will qualify it for you.

first, dont complain about money. if it were an issue you should be driving something more economical..

second, many of us come across deals..but just because you bought it, doesnt mean you need to install it right that instant..

third, I think we have thrown out numbers like.. $400-$500 for a decent dyno tune.. but you throw out numbers like $1000 and$1500... wtf? keep it in perspective..
If you feel a car that is not tuned has no chance of failure, reduced MPG, or any countless other possible issues, fine.. all we are doing was trying to share our experience with modded cars with you..

sometimes, its better to listen to those who have been there...

Re: Dyno'd today...

you say $500 for 20hp...

but from the sounds of your dyno....you only gained about 30 for your $1000+ that you spent on the cam/install. i mean really.

just save up...not saying you need the tune tomorrow. save up and get one next summer. you asked for opinions. you got them.

or maybe find someone with a scan master, log a run or two and talk to a tuner and get a better mail order for $250.

i was pissed with my 382hp from the mediocre tune i got. do i plan to get a better one....YES....now....hell NO.

Re: Dyno'd today...

I kinda get what you are saying. What is a scan master, and what, exactly is involved with the actual tuning. i know they have like something to tap the pcm, but what do they actually change for power? im getting 26 mpg on the highway. the wideband at the dyno said i was idling slightly lean. thats all i know. thats with the tailpipe sniffer.
