Dyno an automatic trans car?
Dyno an automatic trans car?
How does everyone test a car with an automatic tranny without it downshifting, etc? Or does that even matter.
With a manual trans car, they can throw it in 4th gear and test from 2000 on up to redline. I don't understand how this can be done on an auto car without downshifting and just running back up through the gears
I know its confusing. I want to throw my car on the dyno, and I'm curious as to how that will work out.

Re: Dyno an automatic trans car?
I had my car dyno'd, and they just run it up to speed gradually to get it into 3rd (put the shifter in 3rd too) and once it shifts I think they just gradually get on the gas until it gets up in the revs and completely floor it beyond ~4000 RPM or so?
(after a point where it won't downshift). I can't tell you exactly to be honest, because most shops will only allow their own techs to run the cars, never the owners.

Re: Dyno an automatic trans car?
Chevy High Performance used a dyno to figure out how much power a car produced in every gear.
I think you put it in D and slowly get up to speed then once it is in 3rd gear you roll onto the throttle.
