Driving w/out temp sensor

Do you think I could get away with driving w/out a temperature gauge sensor for about a week or so? I've got a manual fan switch I turn on pretty much whenever I come to a stop. Do you think I can drive without the gauge for a week or so until my new one comes in? I broke it off while installing my headers, so I am a little hesitant to drive not knowing the temp after doing headers. Is overheating concern after doing headers? If it is, I'll park it until I get a new one.

Shouldnt get any hotter, but it doesnt take long to mosey down to the parts store & get a temp sensor....not much $$ either.

but you should be fine. It didnt get hot before did it?

Re: Driving w/out temp sensor

I had an overheating problem when I first got the car. Turned out to be a bad thermostat and something bad in the fan relay somewhere alsong the line. I put in a 180 degree thermostat and manual fan switch. So now I have to turn on the fans myself. One of these days I am going to get it fixed so they come on by themselves. No overheating problem now, only if I forget to turn on the fans when I'm sitting at a sop light.

Oh, and how much coolant should I expect to loose when I replace it? I've got about a gallon sitting in the garage right now.

I think I gave about $8 for mine. If you have the new one ready to put in right when you take the old one out, you wont lose much coolant. Just be quick about it. Leave your radiator cap on and bleeder valves closed too.
