Unhappy Driver side window driving me INSANE!!!

Ok, here we go...

A few months ago my window started clunking (I dont really know how to describe it, sounds like the motor or something is loose and banging around). So I get around to pulling the door panel, and find one of the roller guides is ripped off the window channel. Ordered a new one.

Tonight, I put it on. What a PITA ! Those rivets took forever to get off, and since I couldn't find any to replace them, I used screws, nuts and lock washers. Get it all put back together, window still clunks and shakes going up and down, but no longer catches half way up like before.

So I get a new window motor. I used screws here too instead of rivets, and yes I tightened them all down, even used loctite. Still clunking slightly, but at least it goes all the way up and down kinda smooth. I noticed a rivet had ripped off the mounting bracket for the motor, so drilled it out and replaced with a screw.

By the way, anyone else wonder what GM was smoking when they designed these cars?

So after some much agonized swapping of motors and tightening of screws, I now have a window that goes up and down smoothly, but still makes the clunking noise and NOW IT GOES AS SLOW AS THE PASSENGER WINDOW!!!!

I am losing my mind here, someone please give me some insight, maybe something I overlooked. And it's not missing hardware or window guides, I checked all that twice and its all there. But I am still open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Cool, thanks man. I'll go pick that up today. What did you use to attach it to the door? I can't find those wierd rivets anywhere and nobody out here has big enough pop rivets.

Dont feel too bad, I did this for a friend and it was a real pain to work on but i definitely got better at it by the time I was done. I got some of the huge and expensive rivits, but then couldn't find a riviter to attach them, so I used screws. I greased all the rails and slides and it worked really nice when I was done. There are lots of adjustments that need to be right. You shouldnt have any clunking.

Screws it is. I'll try calling my uncle though, he works at a jeep dealership and might be able to hook me up. Thanks for the input Kevin.
