Does your car get finicky??..

Mine does... I get no SES at all and somedays when I start it it's extremely sluggish and hessitant when I drive it. I have to darn near floor it just to get it to downshift when getting on the Highway or it simply won't get up to speed. When I park it smells like it was misfiring... No SES at all... Then I could let it sit, come back... start it and BOOM all 200 ponies have MAGICALLY returned?!?!... Runs perfectly fine infact so good I have to keep off the gas before I approach 90.... I'm going to attempt changing the plugs and wires and pray for the best...

Last time I had an SES was when my AIT stopped working and I replaced it and it works fine again... The other two times was for an EGR valve and O2 sensor...

I replaced the EGR valve with a used one because it was cheap...
and my O2 sensor with a Bosch sensor...

No Codes, No SES, but where's all my power going???

It's a 3.8 V6 btw...

Could be a bad cat converter.. The 3.8 camaros have known converter issues, many of them well before the mileage that you have, unless you have already replaced it. The best way to know for sure is when the car is acting up, disconnect the converter from the y-pipe and see how she revs. Yes, it probably isnt the easiest thing to do, but it's a surefire way to diagnose if the converter is bad...

Just bang on the bottom of it with your hand. If the catalyst is fubar and plugging the pipe sometimes; you will hear it banging around in there. If it is plugged but not broken up it would lack power all the time-it would not come and go like that.

It seems us F-Body fanatics are all the same Yeah, I had an 85 F-Bird W/ the 2.8 from hell. She was finicky alright! Now keep in mind.......I'm not crazy!....But when she starts acting up just rub the dashboard and talk nice to her.......It worked on mine and my buddy's 87 Berlinetta Camaro when it didn't want to start......Seriously.......I'm not crazy

Did you give it a name like Berlinetta or just get off with saying "Good girl"?

You've never heard of the Berlinetta line of Camaros in the 80's, lot of electronic crap.

Re: Does your car get finicky??..

I only had SES light when my #4 spark plug wire took a dump

Other then that, Only time mine has old bessy performance is before it's atleast 1/2 warmed up, I "almost" lost a race to a lincoln Navigator after work last week because it wasnt up to snuff yet Luckly I still took it

Hot weather and bad traffic are the worst I found for mine, I'll turn off the AC, put down the windows and put it in Park to try to take the strain off the engine and keep it as far below 220 as possible.
