Difference between Z28 or SS?

Hi Folks,

I am looking to buy a `93 to `99 Camaro and was trying to tell the diiference between a Z28 or SS. I can see that the hoods and rear scoop are different. What else - body or mechanical?

Thanks,
Wayne

No, The SS started in 96. They different hood's, rear spolier's an rims. They advertised the horsepower more.

suspension in the ss was better too, zr1 wheels, and the SS made more horsepower due to the freer flowing exhaust, and functional ram air hood. if your going to get a 4th gen get a 98 and up. The LS1 is more dependable, stronger, and just an all around better motor. This is coming from a former LT1 owner so dont think im biased.

Not that I am disputing your claim that the LS1 is a more powerful engine(motor), however on what basis do you see that it is a much stronger/more dependable engine. I personaly believe that the LT1 is damn near bullit proof, at least in mostly stock form. I currently have over 240,000 miles on mine, and drove the crap out of it till around 200k. On the other hand I have friends who have and had 98+LS1 cars who were like mine mostly stock who had nothing but problems. Personaly despite what ever I was told about the LS1, after driving one I'd still have to go with a 98+ model. I still do not think that a LS1 in my car would still be going after the mileage I've accumulated without any major problems. On this board I have read about LT1 cars approaching 300k, what kind of mileage could be reasonably expected out of a LS1? When asking this question I am speaking of basicaly stock cars with bolt ons(as mine). As always with any car the previous owner, and proper maintenance will make all the difference.

Oh Yea, if you go with the SS your going to pay alot more money for nothing more than a functional hood scoop and rear spooler. Be cheaper in the long run to buy a z28 and put that extra money you saved toward some H.P.

Yes, but you will get more for it when you sell it, and it will appreciate faster then the Z28's will. Just a personal observation, but most Z28 owners mod. the F out of theirs, while most SS owners seem to be "waxers".

If for no other reason, and I think there are lots of other reasons, then the fact that GM has replaced the LT1 with this engines.
