Damn hood latch won't lock.

My car was idleing rough, and when I got home I popped the hood to check it out. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary and decided I'd work on it tomorrow. I went to close the hood. Gently set it down, and gave it a good push. Nothing. The dang thing won't lock down. There are no tools or other obstructions because I did not work on the car.

Any suggestions what to check, fix, look for? I tried pusing the latch that locks when the hood is shut, and it went down all the way but did not lock.

Make sure your hood release cable is not screwed up and holding the latch open.

I've had the same problem with mine .. simply push the release handle underneeth(sp?) the dash to the inside and make sure its inside all the way and in its normal place.

... mine simply wasnt closing because the release handle inside the car was kinda stuck out (its old and kinda greasy) .. so everytime i pull it to open the hood it would stay out and not return to its place, which makes my hood not close and lock :O

just push it back in and see what happens ?!!!!!

otherwise i'd say check the hood hooks it might be bent or somthing

thanks shoebox and bo3abd. The interior hood release was stuck. I tried pulling on it earlier, but what I needed to do was push on it. I spent too much time under the hood instead of messing with the release latch. Thank you both.

I don't know about 4th gens, but on my car the locking mech has a height adjustment. Perhaps you need to nudge yours up a hair?
