Cutouts

i wanna put an electric cutout on my TA, everything is stock on it, but i was wondering if putting a cutout on would screw with my knock sensor or any other emissions stuff any of you have any problems with it?

No, the cutout won't interfere with the knock sensor or emissions stuff. Although if the cutout is left open at the emissions station, it can technically be counted as an exhaust leak so keep it closed there. Otherwise, enjoy the new sound and performance.

Re: Cutouts

Ahh i wouldn't be so fast to say that it won't trick his knock sensor into thinking its knock, it depends where you put it i guess, i had mine right after the y-pipe and i'm pretty sure mine was pulling timing with it uncapped.

Re: Cutouts

agreed...

but puting it back under the passenger rear seat should prevent any false knock. besides i think the LS1 is not as finiky about knock...since its a noisier engine anyway.

Re: Cutouts

Why would you guys put a cutout on your exhaust system? They're louder but that exhaust leakage sound is horrific

I probably should have added that I based my reply off the assumption he would install the cutout right before the axle. I have heard of people complaining of false knock from the cutout being too close to the engine, does anyone have log sheets proving that timing has been pulled? Just curious about this as I know a couple people who have cutouts right after their y-pipes as well and they would probably like to know this.

Matter of preference I guess, but many will agree that a cheap cutout can make a stock manifolds car sound good. Also, its an easy way to add some dyno-proven power to the wheels.

I can't say whether it pulled timing but I gained 5 hp with it open so that should negate those side affects.

About the sound, while I think it sounds kind of hollow with it open, I get a lot of complements so I guess it sounds good.

I really was too lazy to log it and being in town kind of it was risky to run with it open too long but to me it seamed to be slower which is usally the opposite when it gets louder. When i went to the track i zero'd out the knock table with tunner cat so there was no prolem there

Re: Cutouts

Would that QTP dual cut-out y-pipe be a bad investment then? Due to it screwing w/ the knock sensor....

Clicky.....QTP link
