cut-outs....cat removal....
cut-outs....cat removal....
I've decided that my cats could go for the sake of a louder exh. Can I sinmply replacethem w/ c/o's? Was also thinking of installing a cutout in place of borla plate. -to quiet it down in the morning as to not **** neighbors off too much...
Can the cat/ cut out idea be done or do I need to buy a ORY?

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
doesnt' the borla already have a cutout built in??or are you thinking of an electric plate?
for the cats i would just get some sections of 3" pipe and swap them out. that way if the need arrises..you can put them back in with minimal work.
Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
what's up dude...
The Borla has replaceable steel plates drilled to certain opening sizes... (since the exh came installed w/ the car.-used- I don't have the plates)
I've seen someone, on here mabie, that put a cut out in place of the borla plate...
Anyway.....I could just get the 3" pipes that come w/ certain cut-outs right? Dual cututs, right at the collector... it'd be the same work as just replacing the pipe pieces....

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
At www.thunderracing.com they sell a set of pipes that just bolt in place of the cats instead of having to buy a whole new offroad y pipe. They are a Mufflex brand product. I plan on getting them but just havent gotten enough money yet. Hope this helps.
Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
ok...couldn't you just make some new plates? i'm sure someone could make them for you.
as for this statement
"that put a cut out in place of the borla plate..."
that's kindda like putting a exhaust tip on an exhaust tip.
the cutout is the entire Y piece with the flange and plates...not just the plates.
i would just get the electric plate and have the option to open or close it at will.

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
That's what I mean. I found it @ Thunder Racing..
179-QTEC30B - Quick Time Performance Electronically Controlled Exhaust Cutout for Borla adjustable F-body exhaust system - Single 3" Valve Only
BUt I could control the volume. I could keep it quiet for when I pull out of my appt in the morning, or when I don't want to stand out. Then I'll have the dual cutouts in place of the cats for the track.
What size? I would think 3". Stainless or Flowtech cutouts? The paint'll burn off anyway, right?

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
so you wanna put a pair of cutouts on the ypipe....and then have an electric cutout plate on the borla?
wow..overkill.
you probably won't pick up much power with the dual cutouts over the borla wide open.
i'm gonna stick with my "pipe insert" idea...
you can have a shop expand each end of the pipe insert so that it slips into place. no cutout i've seen has that. you need to weld them in.

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
I don't see it as overkill.
I'm not lookign for power except the dual cutouts in place of the cats, and I don't expect much more then 5 hp. Never even thought of it. I'd just like my exh to be a bit louder. (no cats) and have the dumps for the track.
And like I said before. I can tone it down a bit by closing the borla plate w/out having to remove the right pipe to swap plates.
anyway...

Re: cut-outs....cat removal....
fair enough. as long as you realize it.
as for the dumps at the headers, you'll have to watch out for false knock. not sure if this is such a problem with the LS1s or not. but i know some LT1 guys talk of getting false knock from cutouts on the headers.
just something to watch out for
