To Cut, Or Not
To Cut, Or Not
I'm considering cutting off the cat on my car, I just would like some advice on what the good and bad would be doing so. And, how much should it cost? Oh and on a similar note, I'm looking for new tips, do tips with resonators sound much better than ones without?
Re: To Cut, Or Not
cut it....CUT IT.....DO IT!!!!
the car will be louder, possibly a small amount of added rasp to the upper rpm tone. and you'll probably pick up 5-10hp or so.
just cut it out, take some measurements and go to a shop and tell them you need a piece of pipe xx" long with slip fit on each end.
most reputable shops won't cut the cat out...legally

Re: To Cut, Or Not
I would do it if you don't have to worry about emissions restrictions. Several shops around my area do that kind of work but I guess when they do the paperwork, they put down that the car is for "off-road use only." Not sure how the whole "system" works, but some shops will work with you.
Re: To Cut, Or Not
Did it with a pipe through the cat... It will give the exhaust a more raw sound... With my Hooker exhaust, it's a balance of the original Hooker tone with the raw sound... I wanted the exhaust louder and this did it... Not obnoxious, but not quiet at all... The exhaust will smell idling in traffic if you have the windows down.
Re: To Cut, Or Not
I had mine cut out on my current car and my old car. If I could do it again I would have a pipe put thought a gutted cat cause when you try to get a sticker it takes a while to find someone who doesn't care about it. A lot of places around here won't give you a sticker with that cut out. Get a hollowed one or a pipe though a gutted one (preferably). I know I felt a small difference when I had mine taken off.
