cruise control issues

My cruise control has been acting strangely the last few months. If I start the car with the cruise switched to "on", it won't ever set. But if the switch is "off" when I start the car, and I switch it to "on" right before I want to set it, it will work. Furthermore, once I have it set, if I need to disengage it (brake for somebody going slow in the fast lane for example), it won't reset unless I do it within 30 seconds or so. However, if I need to disengage it, and turn the switch to "off", and back to "on" when I want to reset it, it will work. So basically, leaving the switch at "on" without having the cruise set makes the whole thing not work. Anybody have any ideas why?

Re: cruise control issues

Well, unfortunately, I can't tell you what will fix the problem, but I can tell you what won't. I had a similar problem, and back in the embarrassing days when I used to take my car to a dealer to have it serviced, I had them replace the cruise control module. So, $400 later the problem still is not fixed, but I have noticed that if I just keep trying it, the cruise will eventually work.

Sorry I can't offer anything more.

Thanks for the warning, i'd hate to blow a few hundred on a fix that won't work. It's not really a huge deal, I guess, I just wish I wouldn't have to remember to switch the cruise to off whenever it's not engaged...

oh well

If third tail light is out, cruise does not work. So check your bulb in your third light. Maybe it has a short.
