Couple Quick Questions

Hey guys I just got a couple quick questions for you:

1)Where would be the best place in general to find a center console lid? The hinge on mine broke off somehow so the lid just sits on the box. GM doesn't sell them anymore do they?

2)Does anyone know for sure what gear ratio my car has, its an automatic 1993 Z28. I thought it was 2.73 but I read somewhere that some 93's have 3.23?

3)Last question...I bought a set of 17" wheels and I didn't know if and how much it would change my speedo and tach?

Sorry if some are dumb, I wasn't sure and just want to make sure I get it right.
Thanks.

Re: Couple Quick Questions

only one ttt for a day, just for future reference
email gmpartsdirect to see if they have the console lid and if so, what number
and if you find your rpo codes (in the glove box) look for gu4 or gu5
gu4=2.73s
gu5=3.23s
also, if your shifter has a "1" then it's 3.23
if it doesn't, it's 2.73

GU2 is 2.73 not GU4.

Re: Couple Quick Questions

for the wheels it all depends on the size of the actual tire taht you put on it, as to whether it changes your speedo.

stock tire size is 245/50/16s for 16" rims and to maintain the same tire diameter and speedo calibration you have to run a 275/40/17 or 245/45/17 tire. both of these have a 25.7" diameter...same as the stock tire

Re: Couple Quick Questions

Actually, you need to check and see what size tire came on your car "stock". That should be indicated on the sticker on the drivers door. The base Z28 came with 235/55-16 all-season tires (26.18" diameter). You only got the Z-rated 245/50-16 tires (25.65" diameter) if the original buyer chose the Z-rated tire option (RPO: "QLC").

Re: Couple Quick Questions

You can usually find some guy selling the center console lids on EBay. Here's one auction right now for the entire center console.

No, I'm not the seller or know the person...just trying to help you out.

If I were you, I would just wait to see if other auctions come up for just the lid. Do you have any scrapyards around your area? They're always good places to find stuff. I found a replacement fuse box cover a few weeks ago...I actually just needed that little cheap plastic thumbscrew, but comes as an assembly.

Re: Couple Quick Questions

Yes I have actually got about 5 scrapyards near my house, but I would prefer to buy a new one that hasn't been sitting outside in the rain and sun for 2 years like most would at the yard. Thanks for the help once again.
