Coolant
Coolant
What's ideal mixture: %coolant to water.
Is 50 the ideal number? What's too much? too little?
The guy at Advance said 70c/30w was fine. He said heck even some people use 100c/0w
Anyways, should I be shooting for 50%? My car uses 14.3L of Coolant and I have 2 Gallons of coolant.
1 Gallon = 3.78L
So I need 1.89 Gallons of Water and 1.89 Gallons of Coolant. Would it be ok to put 2 Gallons of coolant in then fill it up the rest with water?

Re: Coolant
Was this guy trying to sell you a lot of coolant or something?
0/100- best heat transfer- high freeze point, no corrosion protection
50/50- A good compromise, and easy to figure out without measuring cups
70/30- I think it's somewhere around here that you get lowest freeze point/highest boil point. But unless you live in the Barrow, AK, or Death Valley, CA, you probably won't need it.
For the record I've always used 50/50. If you have cooling problems and use this ratio you've probably got something else wrong with your system other than the proper coolant ratio.
And btw yes what you want to do is fine. If I was doing it I'd just put in a gallon of coolant, then a gallon of water, and split the other gallon of coolant between the 2 containers to make 2 gallons of 50/50 mix, and fill till full.

Re: Coolant
I've heard that you're supposed to use distilled water. But I normally use just good 'ole tap water. as long as you don't have a BAD hard water prollem.
I do 50/50. I'll take an empty jug and fill it 1/2 w/ coolant anf fill the rest up w/ water. Are you replacing the DEX w/ green, or vice versa? IF you're switching, make sure you give it a GOOD flush.
