Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

How many of you M6 guys voluntarily skip shift? Does it really affect gas milage like GM thought it would?

From 1st to 4th just seems to lug it. Sometimes when im lazy I skip second and head straight to 3rd. Other than that, I row through 'em all, 'tis alotta work sometimes.

I do it sometimes. Probably has no effect whatsoever on the mileage.

Then again, I've had my M6 for just over 3 weeks now, so I'm still getting used to it.

Re: Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

I usually get 1st and 2nd pretty hard, and then go straight to 4th because I'm already at the speed limit

I never do it. Skip shift lugs my car around in gear and I dont like it. I plan on getting it tuned out soon...

Re: Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

I do sometimes. If' I'm not in a hurry I'll skip em. I removed the PITA skip shift. If I want 2nd, I want 2nd!

I'll do 1*3*5th or 2*4*5TH...

oH and, w/ my bolt-ons driving from CT to NM I got the best gas mileage of at least 30MPG in 6th at about 1400RPM...(FYI) W/ the tune and headers....

Re: Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

I usually do 1-2-4 when I am gonna cruise at 30 or so. 1-4 is just too much of a drag.

It really lugs it too much for when it comes in. I usually do a 1-2-4 or maybe 1-3-4. When I'm ambitious, just a 1 to 4.

I never do.

Annoyed the hell out of me before I disabled it.

Re: Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

IIRC, gm did it for NOISE emissions, not tailpipe/mpg

I noticed you car is a '95, which means you don't have to get the Skip Shift "tuned out" It is much easier than that. On the OBD1 computered cars, you can simply pull two wires from the computer and your done. Both the skipshift and the skipshift light are gone. Heres the link from Brent Franker's site walking you through it.

Re: Conservative M6 Guys: Skip Shift?

I use all the gears, that is why I bought a manual. Sports cars are meant to be driven, with every gear given to you! lol. I hated the skip shift, so that was the first mod! I like the sound of accelerating hard through every gear, that is why I bought the manual. But, to each their own!
