... Clutch safety switch

... I'm looking for a clutch safety switch for my 82 Z28. Neither Classic Industries nor Year One have them and they're no longer available at the dealer. I may be able to find it online if I had the GM part number, but I don't have it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Re: ... Clutch safety switch

I have a 97 camaro w/ a M6 and most of the time i dont have to push my clutch in, but once in a great while i do? does that mean that my clutch safety switch is bad? i actually dont mind not having to push the clutch in cause i never leave it in gear, i use the E-Brake. Plus, im thinking about putting a remote start kit on it, so would i be able to just unhook the safety switch in able to let the kit work?

... I'm not so sure about your situation, Onebad. I don't know of anyone that has hooked up a remote starter in a car with a manual trans. It seems as though there'd be a way. On my '82, without the clutch safety switch, if the car is in gear you or someone could turn the key and it will lurch forward , or backward if it's in reverse. With the switch on it the clutch has to be fully depressed to start the car. I went through some very deep water and the switch was ripped right off. At least I think that's why it came off! I did see the ones mentioned at Advanced Auto and will stop in tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

.... Stan

Re: ... Clutch safety switch

with mine, when i turn the key, without depressing the clutch, it starts just like an automatic. no lurching. and i never leave it in gear when parked anyhow, so i wouldnt have any accidental lurchs.

... Yeah, I'm sure you shouldn't be able to do that. I agree with 95LT1conv, your clutch safety or starter switch is sticking.

... I'm sure it can be disconnected. It sounds like yours is already disabled, Onebad. On the newer cars I'm not so sure what would happen if you opened up that loop, all you can do is try.

Re: ... Clutch safety switch

You unplug the switch and connect the harness leads together to disable it.
