Clutch
Ok,
My throwout bearing is shot and I have to replace it. I'm also going to replace the clutch while I'm in there because it has about 90 thou on the car. Should I A, go with the Ram Clutch stock replacement or B, go with the Borg and Warner stock Replacement? Both are like 300. Any suggestions?

Re: Clutch
what year car??
if it is an LT1 i would do the SLP lt4 clutch and PP...keep an eye for SLP discount sales through thunder racing or tbyrne
otherwise i would look into an upgrade like a spec stage 1 or 2
i'd bet it will be worth the price. while it's all apart may as well upgrade to better than stock.
i've heard only bad things about Ram...nothing really specific...jsut general coments on "dont buy"

Re: Clutch
I agree with the above post...
I'd go for an SLP Disk/ Pressure plate setup as well ..
This is what I run currently and its been working well for over 15k now...
Around $300 if I can remember correctly

Re: Clutch
Ive seen 2 people personally have the SLP LT4 pp/disk go out on them within 20K miles.
Hell one guy just had his go out in his wifes SS at 14K miles.
Im very happy with my SPEC, IMO might as well throw something in there for a little more that can handle any mods you throw at it later.

Re: Clutch
Well I have heard the SLP setup can take up to like 350rwhp ...
Maybe those 2 people had more then that...
I've never heard bad on the SLP setup until now...
I hear every other day on this board though how "my star spec 2" crapped out on me....
I'd watch the star spec clutches....

Re: Clutch
The guy whos SLP clutch went out on him doesnt even break 300rwhp, and its driven very easily all the time. And regardless of how its driven it should take more than 14K miles.
As for the spec clutch, with any clutch manufacturer their are people who dont like them, only company ive never heard bad things about is Mcleod.
I know alot of people personally running spec stage 2's and 3's taking them to the track every chance they get and they hold up. Mine grabs like the day it was new, and ive never had a problem with it. Something i cant say i didnt have with the SLP and the stock replacement.
I am a perfect example of someone who went through 2 cheap clutches only to have both of them die on me within 50K miles, if i would have just went with the SPEC in the first place it would have cost me less in the end.
Besides: SPEC has always been quick to fix any and all problems that they have. If i owned another car, it too would have a SPEC.
