Check Engine Light Problem
For a precise answer, you need to provide info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and major mods. The "Signature" field is useful for that purpose.
Its not the fans turning on the check engine light - its the other way around. In many cases when a trouble code sets, the PCM turns on the fans to protect the engine. You need to scan the PCM to determine the trouble code that is being set.

You will need either a code reader, a scan tool, or pc software to pull the codes. The '95 is different in that it is OBDI, but has an OBDII connector port. That fools a lot of people, including some at garages. No matter what you decide to use, it has to be OBDI capable, with the proper cable. An OBDII cable will not work.
The PCM should have stored the codes.
