So you had to do a "dukes of hazard"
Sorry I know that must suck.
What year is your car?
Have you tried the key is the door unlocked and won't open form the inside or the outside?
I need some more information.

Man that's a puzzle, isnt it. You cannot remove the door panel without opening the door, and you cant open the door until you remove the door panel.

you sure that it's actually unlocking when you move the slider over? if so...I'd hold the handle open as if you're opening and put some shoulder into it while sitting down.

Try this from outside your car.. Put your key in and turn to the unlock position hold it there and try to open the door then. You might laugh but thats how I have to open my drivers side door. Which its now too much of a pain because I lock my doors everytime I get out anyway.

Buy a slim Jim and go down through the window channel. There are metal rods that control the door opening function and locking. If you don't know what a slim Jim is, it is a long flat steel with a cut out hook that allows you to slip by the window felt down into the door. Most cops carry them to help people who have locked themselves out of a car. Go by any tow company and I bet they will open the door for a small fee.

Wow, in my votech class there's a ruby red 81 Corvette with the same problem. It's even got my teacher stumped. He think's we'll need to rip the outter panel off to see what's going on. (which means it will need repainted for sure and probably replaced completely.

As long as its not raining you can just do the Dukes of Hazzard trick. I hate none of us could help you and hope you can get it figured out.

OK the only thing I can think of doing and it "might not work".
take the fender off and take the bolts out of the door hing and try to take the door off.
But you have to be very careful about it not to crack the back side of the door by the jam.
I am stumped too.

There is a plastic clip that holds a metal rod to the latch. I'm sure the clip is broken.

I agree, that cheap plastic piece has broken in every Chevy van at work. But I guess this doesn't help you until you get your door open.

The slim jim trick will work, it just takes A LOT of patience. Search around in there with it, window up, sliding it up and down GENTLY until it grabs something.....you'll hopefully get the lock rod or the one that opens the door...trail and error, but eventually you'll get it to pop.

Re: Cheap *** car doors......

Well thanks but i just took it to a collision shop... and it needs a new locking mechanism because it is somehow locked between lock and unlock.... and they quoted me $130 to fix it (including labor) ... but now they tell me its gonna be a lot more because they would have to break the part that contains the electronic components to get to the lock mechanism...so I'm bummin.. there goes probly 300 bucks..
