Changing a battery...

Is changing the battery as simple and removing it and putting a new one in? Nothing weird like the radio being disabled or some weird security stuff kicking in to kill the fuel pump will happen right?

Re: Changing a battery...

Don't know about yours but my factory radio does have theft deterrent that needs to be disabled before disconnecting the battery. The owners manual tells how to do it...can't remember off the top of my head. I'm sure a search will turn up how to turn it off. I turned mine off and left it off since I am constantly unhooking my battery.

Re: Changing a battery...

I'll check into it thanks, my battery just frickin' died today at work. Started fine in the morning, crapped out later on a nice sunny day(battery is 3 years old). At least it didn't do it on a crappy day with no one around...

Its probably 96+cars that got the theft deterrent on the radio. With OBD2 came alot more things.

No... my 94 has the Theft-Lok on the factory radio. The radio is not connected to the PCM

Re: Changing a battery...

So long as you have the code to the radio, you should be all set.

While you have the battery cables unwrenched you should clean them with a wire brush and some baking soda.

I've changed my battery - didn't need to do anything special to the radio.......

The radios come with the ability to program a Theftloc code into them. If there never is a code programmed in, there is not one to input after power has been interrupted.

Mine was just a basic radio/cassette type. Its gone now for a REAL sound system, but never had any issues with codes and battery changes.
Bolts are 8MM by the way on the battery.

Re: Changing a battery...

If you're using the stock battery mounting technique, you need to take measurements of the stock battery to make sure the new one is going to fit properly and mate to the "wedge" mount at the base of the battery. The battery "flange" on the top of the coolant overflow tank is broken on most F-Bodies that I come across and the owners don't realize it until they go to change the battery.
