Car wont start, not the battery, does not try to even turn over :(

Well I am not to technically inclined in this area but,

Yesterday the car ran fine, its not the battery as all the lights come on and stereo...just fine. The guage reads the power is good. Nothing however happens when I engage the clutch and turn the key. it's as though I am trying to turn on the car without pressing in the clutch...exact same effect. No clicks or weird sounds. But about a week ago I did hear a weird click sound from forward and underneath and car didn't start....I tried it again and car started just fine.

I switch my clutch over a month ago to a Textralia. But I think it may be the starter. Or could it still be the battery? Any ideas

I had the same problem and it ended up being a little loose at the connection to the battery.

could be a battery connection, or starter connection (since the starter is removed to replace the clutch), could also be the clutch switch, ignition switch, starter relay, many things to check. I'd check the batt/starter connections first. Since the car is a stick, you could always "push start" it to drive to a service garage or whoever did the clutch.

Could very well be a PassKey problem, whats the service engine light doing on the car.

Turn the headlights on & aim them onto a wall or somewhere you can see them working. Now turn the key and see if they go significantly dimmer. If they stay pretty close to the same brightness, then the problem is NOT your battery nor the connections right at the battery.

Happened to me too...It ended up being just that the fuse box for the whole car was loose and I had to tighten it...wasn't really a big deal...

The car should still crank over in that case, his doesn't even try.

Try bypassing the saftey switch for the clutch.

No it shouldnt. If there is something wrong with passkey the security light will flash over and over and the car wont turn on.

Check the wire on the starter. If its loose at all it may not turn over. Also check the battery cables.

Could also just be a dead starter. If the voltage gauge is beyond the red or even just at it...when you switch the ignition to "on" there *should* be enough voltage from the battery to crank the starter. (barring any bad connections to the starter itself)

Thanks guys for the responses!! Well it definately was not the battery. But here is the weird thing.... after I posted this , like an hour later I went out and it started! I didn't do anything.

I was told that more than likely it could be the relay and I am going to check the clutch switch thingy. So here is the question, can I get a starter relay without having to buy the whole starter?

You know, it could but then I figured the security light would come on. But then I remember that I disabled the DRL's and I think that in doing so, part of what you have to live with, doing it the easy way, is that your brake light won't come on and I "think" your security light won't either. And yes it acted the same way as though the security light was on, but wasn't.
