car won't start

'01 LS1 just at 60,000 miles. Never had a problem and came out to leave work and all I get is a clicking sound. Battery seems to be good and the noise seems to be coming from under the car. I come from old school having owned lots of big & small block Camaros, Novas and Chevelles. Theses cars were so easy to work on and I am totally lost on this new stuff. Could it be the starter or solenoid?? Just when I'm ready to go on vacation too. Figures.
Just trying to get an idea before I have a shop look at it and charge me out the wazoo.

My vote is starter/solenoid.

Re: car won't start

That's what I was thinking but I have no idea what else could cause the problem. Is the starter/solenoid combo the same as on the older Chevy V8s??

Check the terminals... make sure they are tight and there's proper contact. Then try boosting it..

If those don't work then it's probably the starter.

Took my car to Meineke and they determined it was the starter then hit me with a price of $732 out the door. I went to NAPA and bought their premium rebuild for $218 + tax and paid someone $75 to install it Savings = $425

Smart. There's a reason why shops like Meineke and other big chains manage to be so big and profitable.
