Unhappy Car wont downshift into 1st, whats wrong?

Yesterday i was driving it nice and easy, pulled into my destination and shut it off. When i went to leave i started it and pulled out and it felt really sluggish thats when i realized it was in second gear. And it never corrected itself, everytime i took off it wouldnt shift into first...

My friend suggested i check my transmission fluid to see if it was a clear red, or sludge. What do you think the problem is?

Probably the 1-2 shift solenoid. See if any other gears are not working as you drive. Might have it scanned for codes. Transmission codes don't always turn on the SES.

Whenever my car does this, I suddenly realize that I have a 6 speed and I have to push in the clutch to shift!!!

I'm sorry... That was completely uncalled for. Sincerest apologies...

But seriously yeah, what ShoeBox said... it could be a lot of things. I'm way behind on the automatic transmission world since they went completely computerized. I had a lot of 700R4's before the Borg assimilated them and they became the 4L60E, but I know that the 700R4 could be very tempermental about even the filter being slightly dirty and do things like this. Always a good idea and no money wasted to change the trans fluid and filter anyway.

Good Luck.

Well it was doing all of this last night. This morning i checked the tranny fluid and it looks okay and there is plenty. So i took it around the block and it was working fine today, i swear sometimes my car scares me...

I'd call it a victory, and take the credit, because when something goes wrong that you can't fix, you'll have to take the beating!

Hope it works out either way...

That has happened to a lot of people. Might have been that solenoid sticking.
