Angry Car not starting

I have a 1996 Camaro Z28, just replaced a bunch of new parts.
I was coming down the road the other day, Car just cut off on me.
Check gauge light came on, along with low oil pressure. Checked the oil, it was fine.
Now it want crank back up, turns over just want crank!
Replaced the oil pressure switch , oil pressure if fine now.
CHECK GAUGE LIGHT IS STILL ON!

New parts consist of - Ignition control module , coil , battery (terminals) , crank sensor , fuel filter , starter , optispark , 160 degree thermostat . There may be more that I cant think of.

Anyone else have this problem? Need my car fixed asap, its my DD !

Re: Car not starting

Have you scanned it for codes? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Scanned it for codes only thing that comes up is p0100. What should my fuel pressure be?

Re: Car not starting

Check your ignition fuse in the under hood fuse box. It is a red 10 amp fuse.
When this blows your car will crank for days and not start. If this is not it I would check the fuel pressure (around 38 psi) to rule out the fuel system. If those two are a wash it may be your optispark itself. Let us know what you find out.

Re: Car not starting

Was it running after all hose parts were put in ? Or did it die , you replaced parts and it still won't start. The P0100 is a MAF failure, won't cause not starting, could be caused by playing around trying to get it working. If it stays around it can be fixed later after start problem is fixed. Have you reset PCM or error codes, then tried to start it and scanned for any errors. Good info in previous posts to check things out..

yes, it was running after all those parts were put on. I was going down the road, and it shut off on me. It will start sometimes but cuts right back off. I already checked the fuses also.
Could it need a fuel pressure regulator?

Re: Car not starting

If you check the fuel pressure, it will tell you if the fuel pressure regulator is working. Should prime to about 40psi when you turn the key to run. Pressure should not drop rapidly when the pump stops. If it does drop rapidly, it may be a problem with a leaking FPR, the check valve in the pump, leaking injector(s) or a leak in the fuel lines. Generally, that will make it hard to start.

If you can get it running (try unplugging the MAF sensor), at idle pull the vacuum line off the FPR (check for wet fuel - that is a sure sign of a problem) hold your finger over the end of the line to prevent a vacuum leak. Fuel pressure should be 43.5psi. GM accepts anything in the range of 41-47psi as within spec. When you reattach the vacuum line, pressure should drop proportional to intake manifold vacuum, so you will typically see about an 8psi drop with a stock cam.

What brand was the Opti? Did you loc-tite the rotor screws before you installed it? Not unusual to see the rotor fall off on a fairly new unit.

As far as the MAF sensor, pull the harness connector off the MAF sensor. With key on measure the voltage between the pink wire and the black/white wire. Should be 12V. The 97's have a problem with the pink wire breaking somewhere in the harness, but it's not a common problem on the 96's.
