Car looses all electrical power when starter activated

I got an 02 Firebird that started this strange problem yesterday. At lunch I got in the car, turned the key on, everything lit up like normal, then when I turned the key to start, everything electrical shut off.. No power at all, no clicking no nothing, like someone unplugged the battery. Wait 20 minutes, exact same thing, turn key to On position, radio starts, dash lights up, but then when I go to hit start all electrical things die.

Anyone have ANY ideas???

Thanks.

Normally, that's a loose cable or a bad battery. Either results in not enough juice. Batteries are more apt to die in extreme temperatures (hot or cold).

Yeah, check the battery voltage with a meter/terminal connections. Most parts stores will do a free battery load test.

Thanks Guy, Right on... Corrosion around the battery terminal. I was testing voltages at the battery and was getting 13-ish, but when I would measure at the ends of the positive battery lead (alternator, fusebox, etc) was getting almost nothing, pulled the cable off th epost and it was all crudded up, cleaned it, and put it back and it works great.

Thanks!!
