Car Heater

Not sure which forum to post this in, but anyways....my car will not put out hot air. Even when the car is hot the air coming out is cold. I'm sure the fan works because the air is coming out, and I can hear it coming on, but why won't it blow out hot air?

Sounds like the heater core is clogged and could use a flush.

Get a garden hose, uhook both ends of your heater core lines, run water through it one direction, then run it the other way. Repeat a few times. You'll have hot air when you button it all up

If you flush your core---make sure you don't use too much water pressure or you will be ordering a new core. JMHO

no just unhook it under hood where the coolant lines go into the header core. water down one side of the heater core and it will drain out of the other. cover your face.

ok.....so I don't need to disconnect the hoses that run up by the firewall because it would take me forever to get those off, right where they hit the heater core. So can I disconnect them where they run under the car and use those lines?

Disconnect them at the water pump.

I ended up disconnecting them at the firewall. Due to the extremely cold weather even if I disconnected them at the water pump I wouln't have had a hose that wasn't frozen to use. I took the heater core out of the car and brought it inside and flushed it. Thing was a pain to get out and in, ended having two small places on the back of the core where the fins got smashed. Now I am trying to put it all back together but I can't get one of the clamps to go slide back in place on the heater hose.

Finally got the clamp back on, had to take the hoses off again and rub vasaline on the hose and the clamp and after some more fighting it went on. Everything seems to work fine. I got heat coming out of the vents for the first time since I have owned the car, and my over-heating issue seems to have dissapeared, but that could because of this or becuase I redid my wiring to the fans to make sure there were working properly.

Thanks guys!
