Car Accellerates On It's Own..
This doesn't happen very often, but it's a potentially dangerous problem that I'd like to figure out.
So far, this has only happened on the freeway, sometimes I'll be driving and my foot will be in a certain position for a period of time, and when I let off the pedal, it not only stays, but appears to keep going. At first I thought it was my broke cruise control engaging on it's own, but it happened up a hill once. Although I might just be getting tricked by the rising MPH, it still does feel like the pedal accellerates on it's own...so, should a rename my car to "Christine"?
I checked the throttle body cables, and nothing seemed amiss, although I am no mechanic.

Re: Car Accellerates On It's Own..
The floormat or carpet isn't bunching up or interfering with the pedal??
Stuff like that can happen.
How about if you just sit with the car (off) and pump the pedal several times ... is the pull light?
Does it spring back fully, and quickly??
You're sure there's no kink in the cable between the pedal and the outer sheathing of the cable inside the car, before it goes out through the firewall? (like possibly around the area of the cable that first sticks out of the sheath, at the point in the cable it would be at when you're "cruising" (say, around ~1/4 throttle?
). Check that stuff out to make sure the cable isn't binding at all.
I've had the throttle stick WOT on a couple cars over the years ... one of which was my '81 Z28 with the 383 ..... THAT was scary ... racing towards a red light in the middle of the day with a ~350 HP engine revving to the max!!
Kicked the pedal a few times and it let go, but I was getting ready on the key to shut 'er down!!

Re: Car Accellerates On It's Own..
I removed the driver's floormat because it annoyed me, and the carpet is pretty flat. I think it has to be something with the cables, I think I ought to look further. I unhooked it and pulled it as far as it would go towards me and it seemed ok, but I probably should have got down in there to check it out, I'll have to do that. Maybe if I somehow disconnected my cruise control which may be causing this, that'll do it. I'll try pumping the pedal with the car off, like you said, thanks Capn. when I do try that, what should the pull feel like? hard or light?
When this happens, the pedal comes back when I brake. And lol, that does sound pretty damn scary!

Re: Car Accellerates On It's Own..
This happend to be and I noticed it only happend when the cruise control was on moments before, I myself would manually accelerate, then let off and it would pick its self up gradually not stoping at a certain point.
