can't remove the oil dipstick. Help please

I have a 86 iroc with the 305. just bought the car from a young kid and the dipstick is broke in half. I need to replace it but I cannot get the old one out. I can't see where it goes but I can feel with my fingers and I don't feel a retainer clip or bolt. I hope one of you guys know how to get it out.

are you saying that the broken half of the dipstick is stuck down in the tube?

if so something like this might help.

I use a self tapping screw and install in the broken part. then use vice grips on the tube to make it tight against the bolt(prevents crushing the tube) use another pair of vice grips to lock on the head of the self tapping screw and work both of them in a circular motion to break it loose and most of the time the will come out(use pb blaster or something on the tube)

The hard way, is to drop the oil pan and tap it out from the bottom. If I remember correctly the tube/bracket on my 84 connected to the closest center exhaust manifold bolt.

I don't understand what bolt do I make the screw flush with? I can't feel any bolt when I run my hand down the tube to the block. I did put the car up on jack stand yesterday and got under the car to see if I could see the spot where the tube goes into the block. I still couldn't see it bc of the starter being in the way. I plan on pulling the starter out tomarrow evening, to get a good look at it.

THe bolt that holds the dip stick tube is directly behind the tube at the top of the block.
