cannot program new keyless remotes

cannot program new keyless remotes
Hi,
I have bought two new keyless remotes for my 1996 Camaro Z28. THe numbers on the back match my existing remote:
GM 16245100-29
FCC ID AB01502T
My method was:
turn ign on/off
remove radio fuse
turn ignition on/off three times - doors lock/unlock themselves
hold lock and unlock buttons on my existing remote - again door lock/unlock themselves
hold lock and unlock buttons on my new remotes - nothing happens
remove key
replace fuse
What am I doing wrong - or have I somehow got two new remotes that both do not work?

Re: cannot program new keyless remotes
I ran into the exact problem that you had, I too would like to know, since I returned the one I got from the dealer, but still have the one I got on ebay. I never was able to get either one to work. I tried replacing batteries etc. and nothing ever seemed to work

Not sure why you are first going through the programming sequence for your fobs that already work. Try eliminating that step. Also, if no lock-unlock is happening with the new remotes, they may need batteries.

Re: cannot program new keyless remotes
It been a while since I gave up trying, but as I recall you have to use one of the fobs that is programmed correctly first then add the new ones, at least that is what I recall from the owners manual. I tried any number of things, including not using the one that worked in the sequence, the battery out of the one that I knew worked, basically everything I could think of. It is just easier to unlock with a key. LOL

According to the owner's manual, you need to reprogram all remotes at the same time. The fact that I can reprogram the original means that the procedure is almost correct. I have tried changing batteries - and again only the original fob works.

The programming procedure on my Tech Page doesn't say anything about doing anything with the original fob. You do have to program all new fobs. I would say your new fob is no good.

Shoebox,
Now I am getting confused as your web site says:
NOTE: Always program both transmitters when replacing a lost or damaged transmitter. The first transmitter code programmed will always be in both memories until a second transmitter is programmed within the same sequence.
So I understand that to mean that if I programmed up the new fob and did not register the original fob at the same time that only the new fob would be recognised.

Re: cannot program new keyless remotes
Re-reading that, I think the purpose is meant to purge the memory of a transmitter lost or stolen. It may be that you need to do both, so carry on.
I don't think this has anything to do with your problem, though. If the programming procedure works with your existing fob and not with the new one, I would say it is the new fob that has a problem.
