Camaro Hood Material?

Anyone know if it's all metal or part fiberglass or what? I'm using a metal bondo to fill in holes under the non functional hood vents because when it rains they cause misfiring.

Re: Camaro Hood Material?

The stock Camaro hood is metal with plastic inserts.

You say the inserts are leaking and allowing water onto the motor causing misfires? I'd be more suspect that your spark plug wires are bad.

Instead of making a mess with Bondo, why not just get some silicone and seal them from the back side, or better yet replace your spark plug wires?

Re: Camaro Hood Material?

It is not my wires, this happens when it rains because there is no sound deadener under my hood and the metal hood already has holes in t (all of our camaros have small, barely noticeable holes around the metal part of the non functional hood vents. My inserts are not leaking, the hood is. Besides, I replaced my inserts with non stock, decorative ones. This happened with old and new wires.

I've tried silicone, it doesn't last.

Re: Camaro Hood Material?

I've tested it, the water drips directly on the coil pack. It never happened until I removed the sound deadener from under the hood, which probably saved the coils from water in the past, and after I removed my plastic inserts. It also never ever happens unless it has rained, which is not alot in San Diego. This has happened about 6 times.

So you're telling me that it is only my coil pack or wires, not related at all to the rain, but the wires decide to act up every single time and misfire, after it has rained, just by coincidence?

EDIT: sorry if I come off as hostile, its been a long day =).

Re: Camaro Hood Material?

no, it is the rain water, but it shouldn't miss when the coils get wet

Correct. You should be able to spray the engine with a garden hose and not cause it to misfire.

ooooh....me dumb. me go sit in corner now.

I guess I should look to see how much a coil pack replacement costs now. Anyone have an idea where to look? Which site is the good GMparts place (apparantly there's one that ****s people over)?

I would recommend finding a used one.
