Cam kit and heads.

Hey there once again, I decided to just say screw it and cam the 93 z28. I would like a nice sound to it without going to big. Could somebody please give me some info on a cam kit (cam, timing, rollers...) And which heads to accommodate the cam? Please and thank you. Recently ebuilt lt1 by the way 6speed.

It's the other way around... heads first, then match the cam to the heads.

Are there any cams I can run with the stock bottom end and ported heads, stock tb? I was looking at lloyds cams but I'm guessing you need the heads package first.

Re: Cam kit and heads.

Sure.... stock bottom end can support 500 flywheel HP (about 435 rear wheel, thru a 6-speed) . Lloyd's head packages are ported stock LT1 heads. You send him your heads and intake, he ports them. Can open up the manifold for 58mm throttle body. You would only be looking at completely new heads if you want more than 500 HP at the flywheel.

Why do you want to limit your engine with a stock 48mm throttle body? Ports on the stock manifold are already 52mm. It's possible to have the stock TB opened up to 52mm.

Let's get even more basic:

- what HP level are you looking for?

- what is your budget?

- what mods do you have now? You really need a CAI and headers/catback to support head and cam upgrades.

Re: Cam kit and heads.

My budget is $2500. Im looking to get around 50 more hp. I was looking into a new tb from holley or bbk along with some pacesetters. I have a recently rebuilt lt1, straight piped, 3.73 rear end, mcleod clutch, and a k&n. Its pretty basic but In really want to cam it. I just don't know how to approach it because I've never done it

Re: Cam kit and heads.

You don't need to touch the heads to add 50 HP. CAI, long tubes, 3" catback, mild cam w/ 1.6X full roller rockers (either the 2nd or 3rd cams on the LE list - verify with Lloyd), throttle body coolant bypass, 160* t'stat, PCM tune.

What did they do to your heads when the engine was rebuilt?

Im not quite sure about the heads, I'd have to check the build sheet. Is there a number I can call him at? How would I do the tune since its the chip.
