Calling.... electrical gurus!
I have a 1994 trans am and my taillights are acting up ridiculously! I've replaced bulbs and didn't fix the problem so now I want to replace the sockets. What I need is the part numbers for the sockets in the taillights. Also can I buy these at like Autozone or is it dealer specific part?
I just went to my local dealership and they had the sockets in stock.. Just told them what vehicle, 93Z... Cost around 12 dollars... But you will need the die-electric grease... It didnt come with the socket assembly...
I would test some wires before you going replacing parts. Socket is likely cause of problem but a faulty ground could also be an issue. Check the brake switch to make sure that is good. I would also meter the + wire to see what you get. What exactly is it doing, that may help to get a better answer.
I'm just going to throw this one out there. When you say they act up, does that mean the lights that are supposed to light up get dim and other lights get brighter? If so, I would agree that you need to look for an fix a bad ground. If not, we need a way better description of what the lights are doing.

Just looking at what the brake light do, you are loosing the right side completely and they are slow to light back up. It seems like there's a bad ground on that side that can't even run the brake lights when you put them on. Try running another wire to one of the sockets ground wire and screw it into the sheet metal of the car in the back where the lights are. If that's it, your lights should get brighter and light up quickly again.
The left side turn signal could be a bad bulb, but you said you have already replaced them. Just for grins, swap the bulb in the right socket that works for the one in the left. If it's not that simple, you'll need to do some testing with a test light to confirm a wiring or socket problem.
