Re: Calling all Know-it-alls

I've snapped more normal sockets doing stuff like this than I have fingers; thus the reason for the Impact comment.

Just stating it's not necessary to use an impact socket.

most dealers dont stock them and generally wont help you. when a customer tells me they lost the key i point them to the serivce department to have them hammered off. if you want to attempt to replace them, take the picture of the nut to a chevy dealer and they can order a replacement from mcgard and it takes about 2 weeks.

Re: Calling all Know-it-alls

I have seen them removed by heating the nut with oxy acetylene and using vice grips. heating the nut also heats the wheel stud and it will expand (lengthening) releasing the tension on the nut. heat the nut quickly as the trick is keep the wheel cool. Good luck!

Weld a 3/4" heavy hex nut onto the end of the wheel lock and you're done. The lock is junk anyway without a key. Simple and easy.

Re: Calling all Know-it-alls

Just did this 2 days ago on my buddies t/a. Go to sears and get a craftsman bolt out set. We ended up using a 3/4" size with an impact gun. Put the socket over the lock, couple taps with a hammer to make sure its seated descently, air gun and voila, pretty much as easy as having a key honestly.
