a/c will not engage
Re: a/c will not engage
Fuse, usually trips when u are even just alittle low on feon to stop the pump from burning up. I think it should be in the fuse box by the drivers side headlight under the hood.
Re: a/c will not engage
The low side pressure switch is located on the line about 6 inches from the drier. You can pull this plug and jumper it to manually to engage the pump. This will tell you if that switch has gone bad or if your refrigerant pressure has gone too low.
Re: a/c will not engage
On my car, it was a relay. Easily diagnosed at a shop with a code reader. They topped off my system before checking that just to be sure that that part was up to par. In all, it cost me about $182 IIRC.
Re: a/c will not engage
I had the same thing happen to me the other day. After doing some research on here, I decided to try what I had seen posted in a few different threads and I'm happy to say it worked. I disconnected the positive battery cable for about ten minutes and reconnected it. The A/C compressor kicked on as it should. It seems the power runs through the PCM and it needs to be reset. I don't have all the details, but it sure worked for me. I hope this helps.
Re: a/c will not engage
I have the same problem. My problem started after the Opti-Spart install. Go figure. My A/C was making a horrible shrieking noise. It still worked. Until this afternoon and the A/C stopped blowing cold air. There's not shrieking noise. And it doesn't engage now. So I'm guessing my clutch asembly is shot.
Re: a/c will not engage
If your refrigerant pressure gets too low the PCM will set an internal code (NO SES LIGHT) telling the system to NOT engage the A/C clutch. This is to TRY and protect your compressor from damage when there isn't enough freon (AND THEREFORE OIL) in the system to safely operate. The quick way to see if this is the case is to put 12v to the clutch without anything running. You should hear a VERY audible click when you do this. If you do, then most likely you need a charge.
To the guy with the shrieking A/C.. don't be surprised when you have to replace every last piece of your air conditioning. If your compressor bearing has slowly been going out, with you continuing to run it, your entire system could be contaminated with metal particles beyond hope. If you have a known problem... don't continue driving that way unless you have to.
