A/C Troubleshooting ideas?

I recently bought a 95 Formula and the AC is not working. Here is what I did so far.

1. Checked low side pressure ~35
2. Checked HVAC fuse - ok
3. Swapped HVAC and Fan Relay - no change
4. Removed belt and hand turned compressor - so it's not locked up
5. Checked electrical connector on compressor

It doesn't even click like it supposed to when it turns on and off.

So is there is a troubleshooting guide somewhere?

The compressor was replaced about 3 years ago with an Autozone one, so I don't think it's the compressor but it could be.

Could it just be a sensor somewhere?

Any Ideas would be great.

Thanks
Dennis

Re: A/C Troubleshooting ideas?

Is it just not coming on?? If that's the case, first thing I would try is disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then trying to run the A/C again. That fixed it for a buddies car. For some reason the A/C system seems to have a quirk sometimes where it won't run unless the battery gets disconnected. Probably something in the computer, but do a search and you'll see the same thing on here from several people.

If that doesn't work, try swapping the relay for another one next to it in the relay box (they are most all the same).

Ok, I tried both ideas and still nothing.

And yes it does not turn on at all. It does not even "click"

I am hoping it's something simple and not the compressor again.

Re: A/C Troubleshooting ideas?

I had some very unusual problems with my compressor and it turned out to be the actual connector at the compressor. It was plugged all the way in and it was free of corrosion but it was still not always coming on. I finally figured it out by turning the car on putting the a/c on and CAREFULLY using a long flat tipped screwdriver and poking the connector at the compressor - what do you know it kicked on the compressor. You can also try pulling on the harness somewhat firmly and seeing if that will turn it on.

Just an idea. It fixed mine...

You can always have it looked at by pro. It will only cost you like 20.00 bucks. Then fix it your self. That's what I'd do becuse i don't have the time for trouble shooting. And it's cheaper to fix it yourself.

Re: A/C Troubleshooting ideas?

I fiddled with the compressor connecor and the compressor came on for alittle bit. I then checked the pressure on the low side and it is now at 75!

Any Ideas?

I guess I'll get under the car and play with the connector some more.

Re: A/C Troubleshooting ideas?

umm, if the compressor is not running, 35 on the low side is too low

the compressor will not run if the pressures too low(or high) due to the oil that lubes the compressor is suspended in the refrigerant

static pressure(compressor not running) should be 80-100 psi on both high and low

dynamic pressure(compressor running) should be approx. 30-40 pisi low side and 175-250 high side(depending on temp and humidi)y
