A/C stopped working

My A/C stopped working last weekend. Sounds like the compressor isn't kicking on. I checked fuses and relays, all is good there. Will the compressor still kick on if its low on freon? Trying to figure out if the compressor is bad or system just needs a charge. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: A/C stopped working

The sensor in the high pressure line will detect if it's too low on freon. If so, it doesn't allow the compressor to kick on. To test out the compressor (and to top off the freon) just jump the relay in the underhood fuse box. Assuming yours is the same as mine (and I can't see why not) it's the B1 and B4 slots. If the compressor kicks on, just hook up a can and refill.
If not, the compressor is probably shot.

See that for a detailed look. It certainly helped me out.

Thanks, that's a big help. Should I have the car running and AC on when recharging? I did this once to my truck a couple years ago, but don't remember if enigine is on or off.

Of course. I figured since I just got done researching it all in the past few days, I'd pass on some helpful info. That video alone really helped me as it explained it well and showed me exactly where to jump it, etc.

You can charge it with your vehicle off, but with it off you will need too charge through the high side. with the vehicle on and a/c turned on charge it through the low side, when running if you try charging through high side the compressor will just push it back out.
