A/C problem
A/C problem
The car is a 1997 SS with an obd1 swap. The compressor just quit working. The clutch wont kick in. The high side pressure is 230 when running and low side is 35. The A/C was wroking fine, than quit, I turned it off, waited 5 minutes, turned it back on, and it worked for a little while, now it wont kick on at all. The clutch does cycle ocasionally. The relays for the fans and A/C are all fine. The wires that I can trace are all fine, the fuses are good, and the compressor is a rebuilt unit that I picked up 2 years ago and has always worked well. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Eric L
UPDATE: LOL, now its mysteriously working just fine, ARGHHHHHHHH. I swaped the pressure switch with a spare I had also to eliminate that. That was earlier. I just went out in the garage and fired it up after I posted, and it wouldnt work................than it just came on. I unpluged, and pluged in the pressure switch and the fans and compressor switched on and off just like they should. Now it could last a day, and hour, or who knows. Lol, any input. Thanks, Eric L
I eliminated the sensor earlier in the day, I have no idea why it started working again. I drove it 22 miles to work today, and 22 miles home and its still working fine.
I dont get it, lol. Now, if only I could get rid of this irritating rubber on rubber squeek coming from the back of the car, lol. Eric L

UPDATE: It just reared its ugly head again. When A/C is commanded, the compressor, AND the fans wont come on. Any ideas? Im lost. Again, pressure is fine, when it DID work, it was ICE cold. I eliminated the pressure switch. I dont believe there are any other switches in the system. Im thinking this might be an ECM issue possibly. Any input is apprecieated. Eric L
OH.....................MY......................... ....GOD. Now, im REALLY confused. I did as fastbird said, over on LTXtech. I pulled the plug on the compressor, tested voltage with key off as a control. It read 0, good. I tested it with key on, it read 0, kinda as i figured. I started car, multi meter read 13.4, I says, darn, sounds like its an electromagnet in the clutch, damn. So I turn the car off, and plug it back in. Just for grins, I start the car BACK up, turn the AC back on, and CLICK...................................The DARN compressor kicks on, ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. What could it be? A bad connection at the compressor? I disconnected the battery and pulled all the fuses earlier to do a master reset. I even swaped ECMs. WTF. Yeah, im glad its working, but if I dont figure out why, im no further than i was before. DUDE. lol, that is all, lol. Eric L
