A/C problem
A/C problem
First off, I've been getting really bad gas mileage (15mpg ave.) and just in the past few weeks I've gotten DTC 67 which is "A/C refrigerant pressure sensor circuit (pressure sensor or A/C clutch circuit problem)". Also my A/C has been blowing cool to luke-warm air. And when i turn the A/C on or start the car with A/C on it almost dies.
Just last night i turned on my defroster (which aparently runs the A/C I've just found out) and smoke started comming out from under my hood, so i stopped, popped the hood and found that the pulley on the A/C compressor was not spinning and therefore causing the serp belt to smoke. So i drove the car home, parked it over night and this morning I turned the car on, along with the A/C, and the pulley was spinning again. My best guess is that I need a new compressor, but I know nothing about the air conditioning system. If you guys could help I would sure appreciate it.

Re: A/C problem
If the belt is shredded, it wasn't just he clutch that screwed up. I guarantee you that much.
When I replaced the AC clutch in my Ranger, which had been dead for a year, everything else in reagard to the serpentine belt/pulleys spun just fine.
So, the guts of the compressor are going.
And the compressor pulls moisture from the air, which is why it works with the defroster....which also keeps the compressor lubed when the AC is not in use a good chunk of the year. Brilliant idea.
