A/C Leak Question

A/C Leak Question
Hi Guys. This spring I noticed my A/C System was dry and didn't cool anything. I had a mechanic friend put dye in the system and recharge it. We didn't see any leak at all but over time a little has seeped out of the low pressure shrader valve. My A/C was barely working again so I put in a bottle and now I can hear the valve leaking.
Does anyone know the part number for the low side line, as well as how hard it is to change yourself or is it just better to bring it to a mechanic/dealer? Also, how much would they charge? Thanks.

If you look down in the valve, you should see a "stem" sticking up just like on a tire. Your mechanic buddy "more than likely" has a schrader core remover. The make a special remover that will pull it out with the refrigerant still in the system. takes all of 20 seconds.

go to your tire shop and ask them to change the schrader for ya.
If you run the a/c , theres only about 40 psi on that line. You or they can change it fast enough and not lose much freon at all. I have done this many times but I have a schrader tool. The schrader is the same one as a tire valve.

Yea, what HK said. But the tool I was talking about actualy has a shut-off built in to it. You can remove the core drop a new one in and not lose anything. If losing refrigerant isn't a big deal to you pull it and go. It can be done on the fly and you shouldn't lose all that much.

i had a similar problem about 2 minutes ago. i screwed the dust cap on too tight after charging and POP! the valve started spewing everywhere. it went down so far i couldnt think what to do. i thought i borke it at first, but found this post and realized it was a schrader valve. i just grabbed the stem with needle nose pliers and pulled it up. it's sealed tight now. although i'm not sure it will hold.
where can you purchase one of these schrader valve core replacement tools?

oh yeah. that's the cap. i just called it a dust cap. my fault for being inspecific. i think that's what the directions in the recharge kit called it though was a dust cap. whats weird was mine wasnt just leaking a little. it was pushing out at like 150 psi. but now it's not.
