A/C help

I had someone change my compressor but not recharge it because I still need to replace the dryer which I can do myself. Would everything be ok before I replace the dryer as long as it isn't charged? What exactly would happen if I do not change the dryer?

change the drier. it;s only abouut 40 bucks and well worth it especial since the system was open. if not it will not be able to keep moisture out as well and it will effect how well it cools.

question. did they add the correct amount of oil to the compressor when they installed it? make SURE that they did. change the drier and have the system pulled down to a vacuum to remove excess moisture. then and only then can you charge the system. since I assume your doing it yourself and you do not have the proper manifold gauges make sure to take note of how much charge it;s suposed to have (on a sticker either on the engine bay or the drier) that way you know how much freon to add by weight

the condensor is fine. the only time you need to replace that is if the compressor gernaded and trash is all in the system. if thats the case then before the compressor was ever boltaed up the H valve should have been removed and cleaned. the evap core should ahve been flushed and so should have the condensor.

mine just had the leak in the front. I won't be the one pulling the vacuum on the system...someone else is going to have to do that one. Is the dryer as easy to replace as it looks? Looks like a simple screw on/off job.

Yes they put oil in compressor, I bought the compressor and oil myself and had the shop put it in, I watched to make sure they put the oil in it.

yeah. the drier is easy. just take it slow and do not strip or cross thread the fittings. make sure you use new o rings and put a little compressor oil on the o rings. only open the new drier when your ready to put it on IE do not let it sit while it's open or it will just suck up moisure. after you get that done your ready to have it sucked down to a vacuum and have it recharged.
