Unhappy A/C experts in here please

hey guys,

my a/c is not coming on. here is what i've discovered thus far.

1) checked the pressure on the low side: 150psi

2) after removing the gauge/hose brass attcahment from the schrader valve it stated hissing. all the pressure is now gone to zero

3) i noticed the compressor is not clicking on either

i have a new can of r134 but not sure if i should try putting it in. what caused 150psi in the first place? also not sure how to fix the schrader valve leak. i'm new to a/c issues so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You'll need to correct your leak(s) first otherwise recharging the system will just leak again. The fitting at the schrader valve may just need to be tighten, but more likely the valve seal is bad and it needs to be replaced. You're better off having it professionally recharged as a vacuum needs to be pulled on the system to properly charge it. Also if the system is left open to air for a while, moisture will cause failures in the system.

well i only use the a/c in the summer, and if the leak is small and only needs to be re-charged once in a while i can deal with that. i don't want to have to go to a stealership or some other shop for them to charge me 800 or more. (which most others here seem to be getting quotes at).

everyone seems to be getting a low charge, but mine was 150 psi? any ideas what may cause that? also, do parts stores carry a tool to tighten or replace the schrader valve insert?
