A/C Compressor Question

A/C Compressor Question
Its summer in California and for the past 3 years I have been re-charging my A/C so I dont have to splurge for the compressor. It is now blowing hot air and I am sweating my hairy Armenian *** off, and I think it is time for the change. What do you suggest, I found great deals on ebay such as this:

If I get this will it solve my problem?
Do I need the 6 groove clutch assembly, or does that come with all of them?
About how much labor should I expect to pay, how many hours for installation?
THANKS!!!

Re: A/C Compressor Question
I am pretty sure that the mechanic told me that they put some red dye in it and saw that it was leaking, but I will double check. What else could it be if I am getting hot air out of the A/C?

Re: A/C Compressor Question
first off, who keeps recharging it for you and why. you may think the more refrigerant you put in the colder it will be but thats not the case, your could be putting to much in. if you keep recharging becasue the system is empty that may mean you have a leak. yes dye is put in the system to make it easier to detect leaks. when you have a chance, turn on your a/c, open your hood, and look at the compressor clutch, you will see the pulley spinning, then here a click and the inside cluth part will begin to spin, if it keeps turning on and off, it may be from incorrect pressure in the system, or the compressor may be bad.

Sleeper, thanks for the advice, I will see if it is the compressor that is the problem.

Paid $210 for a remanufacturer at Advance. $250 sounds too cheap.

Re: A/C Compressor Question
I just took it to the mechanic and he said I have a bad compressor, they put red dye in the system last year, and now there is dye everywhere.
It is going to be $1,632.00 for parts and labor, and they are going to change the compressor, dryer, and a couple belts as well as flush the system.
What do you guys think???

I put the all the parts in myself, and took it to a local shop where they pulled a vacuum on it for 45+ minutes, then filled it up.
I paid $200 for their labor part of the picture.
All told a touch under $600.
Put on all the parts you can, and then take it somewhere and tell them you put a new compressor, accumulator and expansion valve on, and need the system vacuumed and flushed.

Midas quoted me almost $1200 and that was way too high.
New GM compressor should be $340 from Jason Cromer, a drier is around $50 I believe, and I have heard a good idea to change the expansion valve, aaround $60. R-134A to refill should be less than $50. So your getting quoted over a grand for labor. I would find a new mech or diy. Unless you have $ to burn that is.

Also, if the clutch spins continuously, it could just be a clutch coil getting ready to quit. Been there, done that.
I also had the guy that worked for a friend of mine give me the compulsory "$500 for a new compressor and all that jazz" shpiel.
$90 for coil and hour of labor...the Ranger had AC for the first time in ~1.5 years.
